Lena Alanza Thomason

It is with great sadness that the family of Lena Alanza Thomason of Shreveport, LA, announces her passing in the early morning of March 28, 2022 at the age of 94. Lena was born in Shreveport, LA on September 13, 1927, and spent her entire life there minus a short stint in New Mexico when the Air Force moved her family there. Lena loved life tremendously. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Tommy, best friend, Helen, her children, and her grandchildren, entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and working. Oh, how she loved working. She began her life-long love of women's shoes at Rubenstein's in downtown Shreveport for over 33 years and continued sharing her love of and knowledge of shoes when she opened Lena's Shoe Gallery in 1984. Retirement came hard for Lena, as she truly enjoyed working and visiting with customers, many of which she considered family. Lena was an avid country music fan and met some of the greatest country artists from days gone by and several before they "hit it big." She was best known as Ms. T, Ms. Lena, Momma, and Grandma, and she will be terribly missed by all that knew and loved her. Wife of R.M. (Tommy) Thomason (deceased), she is survived by her daughter, Gail Fleetwood; son, Carl Thomason (Barbara), son, Paul Thomason (Debbie); former daughter-in-law, Joan Thomason Ryan; grandchildren, Campbell Moore, Amy Thomason McElhaney, Andy Moore, Tara Foster, Toni Martinez, Brian Thomason, Phillip Thomason, Katherine Mendenhall, Marshall Thomason, and Brandon Thomason; 17 great-grandchildren; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Thomason; and two sisters, Mary Sport and Nellie Kern. Lena's family sends their deepest gratitude to her faithful sitters, Nicola Morgan and Adrienne Cameron for their dedication in tirelessly providing support, help, and love during these past months. We would like to thank Regional Hospice for the compassion and loving care they have provided during Lena's time of need. Please join the family for visitation at Rose-Neath Southside, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana , 71118, on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Services immediately following with Pastor Justin Haigler. A graveside burial will be held at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road immediately thereafter. Pallbearers will be Carl Thomason, Paul Thomason, Amy Thomason McElhaney, Brian Thomason, Phillip Thomason, and Brandon Thomason. A celebration of life for all will be held at the Lowe McFarland Post of the American Legion, 5315 S. Lakeshore Dr., Shreveport, LA 71109. Time and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to The Simple Church http://thesimplechurch.tv/give/give-now or by mail to The Simple Church, 601 Benton Road, Suite 2, Bossier City, LA 71111.
