Funeral services honoring the life of LeDarby Salter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 pm until service time. Officiating the service will be Dr. Greg Davis. Interment will be held immediately following the service in Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana.
LeDarby Salter of Shreveport passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 92.
Born April 7, 1929 in Coushatta, Louisiana to Leon Darby and Margaret Zelma Salter. LeDarby moved to Shreveport in 1947 where he married Martha Jane Hanna of Shreveport on April 9, 1949. The couple were members of Mangum Memorial Methodist Church of Shreveport for over 72 years.
As a member of the United States Marine Corp - First Marine Division, he was awarded the Purple Heart during a tour of duty in Korea (1948 - 1952). LeDarby retired from the Cotton Belt Southwestern Transportation company in 1990 with 43 years of service and continued his career with Claude Gulley Trucking in Shreveport, for another 8 years.
LeDarby is preceded in death by parents and brother, Richard Edward Salter.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Martha Jane of Shreveport, Louisiana; children, Dennis Ray Salter and wife, Carolyn of Stonewall, Louisiana, Patricia Ann Wooten and husband, James of Avinger, Texas; grandchildren, Caroline Hope Salter Smith and husband, Jeffery of Stonewall, Louisiana, Emilee Frances Redmon and husband, Aaron of Lindale, Texas, Hailee Diann Hernanadez and husband, Henry of Lindale, Texas, James Christopher Wooten and wife, Carmen of Garland, Texas; great-grandchildren, Oliver James Redmon and Lily Ann Redmon of Lindale, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews and numerous grand fur babies.
The family deeply appreciates the loving care and protection provided by the staffs of the Chateaus at Montclair and the doctors, nurses and caregivers of the Willis-Knighton Pierremont and Christus Schumpert Highland system.
Honoring LeDarby as pallbearers will be Johnny Craig, Lynn Craig, Henry Hernandez, Aaron Redmon, Bill Wilson, and Chris Wooten.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Bill Blakely, Claude Gulley, Miles Hitchcock, A.C. Looney, Harold Moss, and Bill Steele.
