Funeral services were held for Mr. Leamon Dwight Clements, age 87, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Dustin Clements and Bro. Jessie Henderson. Interment was at Tulip Cemetery in Marsalis, LA. Visitation was at the funeral home on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 5-7 p.m.
Leamon was born June 27, 1937, in Lisbon, LA, to Jesse M. and Mattie Gossett Clements. He entered into rest on September 5, 2024, in Shreveport, LA. When he was in the ninth grade, his father had a stroke. Leamon quit school to help support his family. The family eventually moved to Jonesboro, LA. He proudly served the country he loved in the U.S. Army and completed his education getting his GED. Leamon had numerous occupations through the years; ambulance driver, gas station attendant and later owner, milkman, racetrack owner, logging company owner, mechanic, truck driver, and then worked as a pumper/switcher for Caruthers Producing until he retired. In his later years, he was known as “Pops” as the proprietor of the Mae’s One Stop in Athens, LA. Leamon dabbled in auctions, buying storage buildings, and holding auctions. He would hold auctions for those who had life events where they needed help. Leamon managed Watkins’ Farm chicken houses. One of his last endeavors was working with RoRo’s, specializing in tomatoes, watermelons, and peas. Leamon was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Alice Faye Brown Noland; wife, Jonnie Mae Williams Clements; seven siblings, Louise Nowlin, J.O. Clements, Cecil Clements, John Clements, Mattie Mae Stewart, Bobbie Johnson and Ted Clements.
He is survived by his daughter, Rena Vestal and husband Robert of Jonesboro, LA: two sons, Mark Clements and wife Kim of Minden, LA, and Gary Clements and wife Jodi of Haynesville, LA; brother-in-law, Charles "Red" Williams; ten grandchildren, Brittany Vestal and husband Kyle Zachry, Collin Vestal and wife Tiffany, and Allison Mikal Allelo and Jesse Davenport, Dustin Clements and wife Hannah, Lindsay Embry and wife Brooke, Clayton McBroom and wife Brittany, Tanner McBroom and wife McKenna, Jeremy Kirkham, Jesse Clements and wife Lindsey, Jordan Evans and husband Clay; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Leamon’s family would like to express their gratitude to Overton Brooks VA Medical Center of Shreveport and their staff for the care and compassion shown him.
Pallbearers were Collin Vestal, Gavin Garner, Clayton McBroom, Tanner McBroom, Jesse Clements, and Clay Evans.
Honorary pallbearers were Roland Liles and Keith Watkins.
In lieu of flowers honoring Leamon, his family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
