A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Lawrence “Larry” Darivs Robideaux, 89, will be held at the Louisiana Downs Racetrack later in May 2023 when the races resume.
Larry was born August 20, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Lawrence T. Robideaux and Frances L. Leblanc Robideaux. He passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Larry was a loving and kind husband and father. He was lucky enough to have a job that he loved. He said because of that, he never worked a day in his life. Larry was a United States Army Veteran. He was born in New Orleans and lived in Iowa, Louisiana, until he was 27. He attended Iowa High School and a few years at McNeese College. He started his career in 1960 with one horse. Larry Raced in all the tracks in Louisiana, Hot Springs, and Kentucky. He ran horses in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness and won several thousand races. Breeders Cup elected Larry to the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 2014 and Person of The Year in 2015. He trained for 61 years. Larry was on the board of directors of H.B.P.A for serval years.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Geri Robideaux; and sister Ruby Peligan. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay Woodruff Robideaux; daughters, Carrie Louise Robideaux, Frances L. Dominaque, and Yevette Robideaux Wagner; granddaughters, Chistina N. Witt, Kassidy P. Robideaux and Emma Wagner; the apple of his eye and great-granddaughter, Maddi K. Witt; and brother, Wayne Robideaux.
