Laura Sue Ordoyne, a beloved matriarch, devoted mother, and cherished friend, left this world on Thursday, November 28, 2024, just one day shy of her 78th birthday. Born on November 29, 1946, Laura lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a selfless spirit that touched the hearts of everyone around her.
Throughout her career, Laura was a steadfast presence in her community. She retired from the Bossier Parish School Board, where she notably served as a school bus driver. She knew those were special people. She cared for each and every child that rode on her bus. Demonstrating her commitment to her profession, she held the title of President of the local School Bus Driver's Association and Vice President of the Louisiana State School Bus Driver's Association. Laura was not one to shy away from hard work—her tenacity led her to another successful career at Sears, where she played an instrumental role as the Human Resource Manager and Manager of the Jewelry Department. Her boundless energy and work ethic were evident in her decision to continuously seek new opportunities and to serve others.
Upon moving to Holy Cross Villas, Laura brought joy and warmth to her new home by volunteering her time and culinary skills. She joyously organized monthly birthday luncheons that celebrated the lives of her neighbors, which quickly evolved into bi-weekly gatherings until her health no longer allowed her to continue. Her heart was always rooted in making others happy.
Laura's personality shone brightly; she had an innate ability to make people smile and laugh, using her unique sense of humor to bring light into the lives of those around her. Her unwavering willingness to help anyone in need was a defining aspect of her character, and she often included her children in her generous acts of service. Her children learned early on the importance of giving back and the expectations of kindness that their mother instilled in them—often with a playful reminder that her shoe was a formidable tool for discipline!
Married to her beloved Gerald Roy Ordoyne for an incredible 42 years, Laura held family at the center of her universe. She was not only a loving daughter and sister but also the greatest mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ask for. Known affectionately as “Mom” or “Granny,” Laura created a welcoming environment where she adopted her children’s friends as her own, enchanting them with her delightful cooking and warm, maternal love. Her family was her pride, and they were equally proud to call her their own, recognizing her as their rock and guiding light.
Laura was deeply committed to keeping strong bonds with family and friends, regularly reaching out to share love and connection. As illness progressed, it saddened her to know she could no longer maintain these relationships as she wished. Yet, throughout her struggles, she fought valiantly to stay close to her loved ones, demonstrating her immense strength and deep love for her family.
Now, as she joins her soulmate in Heaven—dancing joyfully in reunion—Laura Sue Ordoyne leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. She may have departed from this earthly realm, but her memory will forever reside in the hearts of her cherished family and friends.
