Larry Roger McCord was born December 18, 1941 in Oil City, Louisiana to parents Thurman Cole McCord and Willa Guess McCord and passed away peacefully, January 12, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Larry attended Oil City Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from North Caddo High School where he played football. After serving in the Army National Guard, he received an Associate of Arts Degree from Texarkana College and attended both Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and in Shreveport. He spent many years in the banking profession in Shreveport, Bossier City, Mansfield, Little Rock and Waldo, Arkansas, where he became owner and president of the Bank of Waldo. Later in life he enjoyed a career in sales at Commercial Power Equipment. His greatest accomplishment in life would be raising two fine children, Christen and Brooks. His great purpose was supporting them. He especially loved being at every ballgame that Brooks played from T-ball days to college days. Larry also had a passion for reading and learning. Topics of deep interest were history (particularly Louisiana history), economics and politics. He valued education highly and continued learning by often enrolling in online courses. He was generous and fun-loving. His grilling and barbequing skills were appreciated by family and friends who feasted on his barbequed ribs and chicken. Larry was passionate about all things LSU, especially baseball and football! He loved catfish dinners on Friday nights and imported cigars. You could find him every year at the St. Pius X Catholic Church's booth at the Red River Revel. He was an active member of The Knights of Columbus, Council 1108, where he once served as the LA State Financial Secretary, was honored as Knight of the Year and frequently volunteered his time with many of the council's activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Garry Cole McCord and sister-in-law, Mary Anna Brooks Petrick. Larry is survived by his loving family including his two children, daughter, Christen Sutherland and husband, Paul of Shreveport and son, Brooks McCord and wife, Amy of Lee's Summit, Missouri. His memory also continues to live in the hearts of his grandchildren, Sara and Nicholas Sutherland and Annie, Allison, Scott and Joshua McCord and the mother of Christen and Brooks, Cynthia McCord. Other family members include his sister-in-law, Cindy McCord of Oil City and nieces, Anna Floyd, Kaylon Banks of Shreveport, Ashley Longoria of Oil City, and his brother-in-law, Glenn Petrick of Mequon, Wisconsin. Honoring Larry as pallbearers will be Ricky Banks, Cody Floyd, Bud Gildon, Brooks McCord, Alan Peery and Paul Sutherland. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Arledge and Charlie Upchurch. The family would like to thank the staff at WK North 4 West, especially Nurse Tiffuni for their loving care and support and to Dr. Ashok Kompelli for his excellent care.
