Kevin Bruce Luter

Kevin Bruce Luter, 68 years old, died peacefully on February 24, 2021 at his childhood home after a long illness. Kevin was born December 7, 1952 on Keesler Air Force Base, in Biloxi, Mississippi. For much of his life he lived in Bossier City, Louisiana. Kevin discovered a love of baseball playing in little league teams throughout his childhood. He excelled in (and loved) playing baseball while at Airline High School. Following high school, he went on to attend Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. Despite the years he spent enjoying all that college has to offer, he actually graduated with a degree in history, a subject he loved but for which there are few viable pathways to employment. At that point, Kevin realized he had other skills he refined in college, a love of food and socializing, that led to work for many years in restaurant management in New Orleans, the beating heart of good food and good company. It was during this time in his life that he married and then fathered his beloved son, Josh. After his marriage sadly ended in divorce, he returned to live in his hometown where he began another career as a dealer in Shreveport casinos. Not long after returning to Bossier City, Kevin developed a series of chronic illnesses that made work impossible and severely limited his mobility. He spent his remaining years living with his father and mother in his childhood home. Despite these challenges and his constant emotional and physical pain, he was determined to participate in significant life events including attending his son's college graduation and participating in his son's marriage. While his disabling conditions made it difficult for a life outside the home, he was determined this was not going to be the end of adventure for him. To the horror of his family and friends, Kevin got a wild hair and drove himself, with only an oxygen tank for company, across country (from Louisiana to Washington State) to visit Josh and his beloved daughter in law, Sam. He had a glorious time while everyone else spent every moment of the trip expecting catastrophe or worse. Following the death of his father, Kevin became the primary support for his mother. They spent their days talking, arguing about Kevin eating delicious but unhealthy food and taking loving care of each other. One of the great joys of his life was a deep love and enduring pride in his son, Josh. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Edison Tracy Luter and his sister, Kathy Dawn Luter. He is survived by his son, Josh Luter and his wife, Samantha and their 2 canine children; his mother, Laverla Nell (Statler) Luter; his sister, Kimberly Wellborn and her husband, James , along with their children, Chelsea Hampton and Ryan Wellborn; his uncle, Billy Luter; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, Kevin requested that his body be cremated. In place of a memorial service due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of his life will be planned at a future time when his family and loved ones can all be together. Donations in his memory may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children or a charitable organization of the donor's choice.
