A graveside service for Kenneth Lee Mitchell will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Bethel Cemetery, Logansport, Louisiana with Rev. Terry Wheless officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 943 Polk Street, Mansfield, Louisiana.
Ken was born October 23, 1949 in Milton, West Virginia to Lt. Col. Robert L. Mitchell USAF and Mariam Wheeler Mitchell. He peacefully entered into rest on Monday, September 30, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He lived in Shreveport, Louisiana for most of his life. He graduated from Byrd High School. Ken worked for Pennzoil/Shell Co. for over 20 years before retiring from there. He went on to continue working for himself doing HVAC work and other mechanical repairs. His favorite hobbies were helping those in need, and spending time with his dear friends and family.
Ken was a man of many talents and never hesitated to use those talents to help others. His workmanship can be seen today in homes, vehicles, and everywhere in between. He was a friend to many and if he didn’t know you, he’d make sure by the time your visit was over you’d be friends. To many, Ken was the strongest, smartest, most kind-hearted, generous person they’ve ever met. His patience and selflessness radiated from him and blessed those lucky enough to know him. He was a friend, a father figure, a teacher, a mentor, a daddy and a husband. Ken was an original, a one of a kind, a truly unique human being in a world often tarnished by selfishness. His presence will be missed but the life lessons he taught through his kindness and his love for those all around him will live on indefinitely.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 45 years, Janet Hughes Mitchell; father, Lt. Col. Robert L. Mitchell USAF; mother, Mariam Wheeler Mitchell; father-in-law, Raymond Hughes; mother-in-law, Doris DeGeorge and her husband, Vincent.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Simeon Mitchell and wife, Tami of Sumrall, Mississippi; daughters, Kristin McKnight of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Heidi Diecedue and husband, Joey of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother, Rodney Mitchell and wife, Judy of Juneau, Alaska; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mitchell of Sumrall, Mississippi, Emily Montgomery of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lexie McKnight of Garland, Texas, Ethan McKnight of Ft. Worth, Texas, Christian Mitchell-Sikes of Shreveport, Louisiana, Julien, Roman, and Adrian Diecedue of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; great-grandchild, Zachary Mitchell of Sumrall, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Gloria Hughes of Dallas, Texas; brothers-in-law, John Hughes, Michael Hughes and wife, Tammy, and Doug Ayers and wife, Shanna; and a multitude of family and friends.
Honoring Ken as pallbearers will be Simeon Mitchell, Ethan McKnight, John Hughes, Hank Henley, Seth Stinton, and Zach Stinton. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Mitchell, Julien Diecedue, Roman Diecedue, and Adrian Diecedue.
The Family would like to thank the Staff, Nurses, and Aides at Pinnacle Hospice of Baton Rouge for the loving care they provided for the last 16 months of Ken's life.
