Keldron "Doodle" Johnston

A visitation will be held for Mr. Keldron Johnston at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 4-6 p.m.

Keldron "Doodle" Johnston, 78, of Homer, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on July 21, 2026. He was born on May 8, 1948, as the youngest son of Henry and Madeline Johnston. Growing up in Epps, Louisiana, he often joked that he had to walk to school barefoot in the snow—and uphill both ways—a story his family heard more than once over the years.

Doodle worked 44 years as a lineman for Entergy, a profession he was proud to call his own. He was known for his work ethic, dependability, leadership, and willingness to answer the call whenever he was needed. Through hurricanes, ice storms, and countless interrupted family meals, he worked to keep the lights on for the communities he served. Along the way, he formed lifelong friendships with those he worked beside. “Big Daddy” was generous with his knowledge and experience, always willing to mentor new crew members and teach them his old-school ways. The people he worked with were more than coworkers—they were family, and the friendships he made throughout his career remained some of his most treasured.

Outside of work, Doodle spent many years coaching youth baseball, sharing his love of the game and helping players develop both on and off the field. Whether teaching the fundamentals, encouraging a young player through a tough game, or simply spending time at the ballpark, Doodle enjoyed being part of the experience.

Retirement suited him well – though he made sure to keep his finger on the pulse of Entergy with frequent phone calls to his former co-workers. He enjoyed keeping up his yard, browsing estate sales for hammers he never seemed to have enough of, visiting with friends at the Homer Fire Station, and - of course - never passed up his daily afternoon nap. During his retirement years, he answered a different kind of call – one to civic service. He served two terms as a selectman for the Town of Homer, wanting to do his part to make his community a better place.

Doodle will be remembered as the most generous husband, the best shopping bag holder, the keeper of all the walking around money, the best lineman his coworkers ever knew, and the greatest Papa any kid could ask for. He loved his family, his friends, and the life he shared with them. He leaves behind many good memories for those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Madeline Johnston, sister, Marie Johnston, and nephews, Andy Johnston and Clint Johnston.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy Johnston; his children, Kelly Johnston (Kathy), Keith Johnston (Jay), Tiffany Feazell, and Olivia McCowen (John); his grandchildren, Allison, Megan, Hunter, Cassidy, Spencer, Mackenzie, Noah, Kennedy, Jagger, Liberty, Delaney, Reagan, Sophia, and Emily; his brother, Deek Johnston (Liz); his nephews, Charles and Mark; and many extended family members, friends, and coworkers.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Salmon and the staff of Homer Medical Clinic, Dr. Abshire and the staff of Bristol Hospice, and Dr. Koticha and the staff of Highland Clinic for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided.

In lieu of flowers honoring Doodle, his family suggests memorials be made to Claiborne Academy Booster Club or Claiborne Academy Baseball Team.
