Kay Martin

A Memorial Service for Kay FitzGerald Martin, 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at The Elks Lodge #122, 310 East Preston, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be the Reverend Wayne Carter.

Kay was born May 16, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to William Edward FitzGerald and Florine Kendrick FitzGerald. She passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Kay graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1960 and continued her education at the University of Arkansas, where she graduated Cum Laude in 1964. While attending the University of Arkansas, she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She went to Louisiana Tech University and got her master’s in counseling in 1986. She taught at Airline High School and Cope Middle School. Kay was a member of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club, along with the Birthday Club. She was on the board of directors at Greenacres Place Townhouses for ten years. She was a very accomplished woman, and most of all, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. Kay was a kind-hearted soul that touched each person she came in contact with through her years. She always had a smile on her face and lit up the room with her laugh and joyful spirit. Kay was a fighter and fought till the end. She is going to be greatly missed by all.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, John Coleman. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Stough, and husband, Danny; son, Jeff Martin, and wife, Abe; grandchildren, Lily Kay Bergren, Ian Martin, and Ike Martin; brother, Bob FitzGerald, and wife, Patsy; and sister, Patricia Coleman.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103, or American Cancer Society, 920 Pierremont Road #300, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106.
