Kathleen Broughton

A Celebration of Life for Kathleen Broughton, 98, will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Rose-Neath Bossier Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Sarah Kathleen Smith Broughton was born July 29, 1923 in Clarksville, Texas to O.B. Smith and Sarah Fronie Smith. Kathleen went home to be with Jesus December 22, 2021. Kathleen loved music and playing the piano. She began playing in church while still in grammar school when she only knew one song, "Rock of Ages." Her entire life was spent playing piano for church services, choirs and gospel quartets. The last time she played was when she went to church to celebrate her 98th birthday. Kathleen loved her church, Hope Community Church and she loved Jesus. She served Him in many ways, but her gift was always playing the piano. She loved playing and singing with music minister Aaron Nelson and having lunch after church with Jean Philyaw. Kathleen "MeeMaw" loved her family. She was a great mother to her sons and daughter, a great mother-in-law, a great grandmother, a great friend and confidant, and a great spiritual mentor. She taught her family what it was like to be a Christian mother by the life she lived. Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, James H. Broughton; daughter, Linda K. Broughton Day; son, Kevin Mark Broughton; brother, Jack Smith. She is survived by sons Jim Broughton and wife, Kandy, Michael Broughton and wife, Carolyn; son-in-law, Pete Day; sister-in-law, Debbi Gilcrease and husband, Roy; grandchildren, Jason Broughton and wife, Amanda, Joshua Broughton and wife, Andrea, Andrew Broughton and wife, Lizzy, Kyle Broughton, Britney Rust and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, KandyLynn Broughton, Lucy Broughton, Abi Kestler, Eli Broughton, Jose Broughton, Kathy Broughton and Vincey Broughton Connor Rust. The family would like to give a special thank you to Savannah Grand and Passages Hospice for all of their help. Honoring Kathleen as pallbearers will be Jim Broughton, Andrew Broughton, Joshua Broughton, Jason Rust and Connor Rust.
