A graveside service for Katherine Colbert Pilkinton Askew will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Ronney Joe Webb of First Baptist Church.
Our beautiful, kind mother, Katherine, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on November 30, 1925 to William Lawrence Pilkinton and Kate Colbert Pilkinton. She attended Creswell Elementary and graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1941.
Katherine spent two years at Judson College in Marion, Alabama where she was President of her sophomore class. She loved her two years at Judson and made lifelong friends there. After Judson she attended Louisiana State University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and graduated with a degree in Sociology.
Katherine married Harry Weston Askew on March 23, 1947. They were married for 55 years before he passed away in 2002.
Katherine, fondly known as Taffy, was a true Renaissance woman. She loved art, music, literature and genealogy. Her other interests included stamp and coin collecting. She was an Anglophile and enjoyed traveling, especially to London and other parts of England.
Some of our best memories were made in Grand Isle, where Katherine entertained all her grandchildren and taught them to crab and surf fish. She was never happier than when she was catching speckled trout on shad rigs.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Harry Weston Askew and her grandson, William Lawrence Ourso. She is survived by her children, Susan Askew Parnell and husband, Ronnie, Diane Askew Ford and husband, Jesse and James Harry Askew and wife, Candice; nine grandchildren, Weston Carter, Allison Carter, Jenny Ashley and husband, T.J., Sarah Gamble and husband, Kit, Leah Sansing and husband, Jay, April Ford, Graham Askew and wife, Candace, Betsy Gamble and husband, Denn, and Katy Martinez and husband, Blake and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses at Montclair Assisted Living, Dr. Scott McRight and the nursing staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont.
There will be no visitation due to the increase of Covid cases.
