Julia Ann "Egie" Washburn was born on July 26, 1944 to G.L. Smithpeter and Evelyn Spalding Smithpeter in Little Rock, Arkansas and passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in Shreveport.
Egie worked at LSU-S in the Human Resources Department before retiring. She was a great talent that could do everything. She was a master gardener, loved to paint, and did rug hooking. There wasn't anything she couldn't do except maybe welding. (And the family isn't real sure she couldn't do that)! She was married for 62 years to her husband that she lovingly referred to as "Mr. Washburn" her entire marriage. Egie was also a member of Oil City United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willis Smithpeter and Mike Smithpeter; sisters, Christine Chance, Sarah Miley, and Patsy Rebouche. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, A.C. Washburn, Jr.; son, Dee Washburn; daughter, Kim Wimer and husband, David; grandchildren, Andy Wimer, Karen Kreuger and husband, Jacob; sisters, Frances Turner and husband Ricky, Carla Hopkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Scott Boniol and his staff of the Christus Cancer Treatment Center and Christus Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion given to Egie during her illness.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Shreveport-Bossier Food Bank or the Shreveport Humane Society all of which were very near and dear to her heart.
