SHREVEPORT, LA - A Mass of Christian burial for the life of Judy McIlwain Crofton, 69, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Monsignor Earl Provenza. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA.
Judy was born on December 5, 1946 in Winnfield, LA to Eugene Kelly and Armor Shaw McIlwain and went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 23, 2016 following a valiant battle with cancer. Her determination, positive outlook and her sense of humor remained steady throughout her fight and was an inspiration to many. She was never without a smile even on her "bad" days. She was a generous soul, with loyalty and love beyond measure for her family and friends. Throughout her life she offered a home to many and shaped the character of countless others. To all who knew her she was a friend, a hero, and a true force of nature that would come to your aid at any given time.
She was preceded in death by her parents E.K. and Armor McIlwain. Judy is survived by her Husband, and constant companion of 51 years David Crofton; son John and wife, Deniese; daughter Sheri Martin and husband, Sam; daughter Misty Lazarus and husband, Jason; as well as her sister Deanna "Dinky" Mitchell and husband, Robert. Judy leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Douglas Pierce, Noah and Maximus Crofton, Allie, Emma Grace, Cade and Jase Lazarus, Drew Martin; and one great-grandson, Paul Pierce.
Honoring Judy as pallbearers will be Max Crofton, Noah Crofton, Jason Lazarus, Drew Martin, Sam Martin, and Douglas Pierce. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris DeLouche, Robert Honeycutt, Hank Johnson, Cade Lazarus, Jase Lazarus, and Kelly Covington.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center, Dr. Scott Boniol and Frances Valderas-Jones.
Contributions can be made in Judy's honor to the Jets Barbell Weightlifting Club, where the sportsmanship and character of her grandkids and many other athletes will be shaped. Judy was a strong supporter and their number one fan. Contributions can be made in Judy's name at the Downtown Branch of Citizens National Bank.
