Memorial services for Joy Rion Nelson will be held Monday, September 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Minden, Louisiana with Rev. Leland Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2021, preceding the service at First Baptist Church. Joy was born February 19, 1936, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and entered into rest September 24, 2021, in Minden, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Edwin T. and Virginia Rion and was a member of First Baptist Church Minden where she was a part of the ladies Sunday school class led by Kris Liles, all of whom she loved dearly. Joy enjoyed singing in the Voices of Praise choir as long as her health allowed. Joy and her husband Lamar raised a family of 4 daughters in Shreveport, Louisiana, where they served the Lord for many years at Western Hills Baptist Church. In 2008 Joy and Lamar moved to Minden to be close to family and continued to serve the Lord at First Baptist Church. Joy and Lamar would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 2, 2021. In their 50 years together they raised their girls, traveled, and served the Lord on many mission trips to the Mexican Indian Center in Cordoba, Mexico. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin T. and Virginia Rion; her sister, Wanda Goodnight; her daughter, Dawn Rainer and her son-in-law, Ben Harrison. She is survived by her husband, Autre Lamar Nelson and daughters, Ginger Swanson (Gary) of Minden, Teresa Adams (Brad) of Denison, Texas, and Annette Harrison of Monroe; sister, Claire Weber of Nashville, Tennessee; son-in-law, Mike Rainer of Florida; brother, George Hudgins of California; ten grandchildren, Eric Swanson (Jennifer), Lyndsay Rainer Bardwell (Sean), Casey Rainer (Sarah) Bryan Adam (Tana), Rebecca Swanson Bower (Ben), Lauren Adams Joie (Joe), Nelson Adams (Autumn), Drew Harrison (Alyse), and Will Harrison; twelve great-grandchildren who were her delight! Levi and Paisley Swanson, Asa, Alexis, and Ava Bardwell, Amity Donaghey, Braedy and Aly Adams, Brody and Barron Bower, Logan and Anniston Joie, Kelton Hatten and Rion Adams, Ben Harrison, and three great great grandchildren, Chase Donaghey and Lizzie and Ezra Bardwell. We must thank Dr. Christopher Sneed of the Christus Highland Medical Center, his staff, Dr. Russell Tynes, his staff, and all the girls in the Chemo Center and Gus, Mom's favorite pharmacist for all the years of excellent care and friendship in Mom's fight against multiple myeloma. The ladies of Southern Ingenuity who were Mom's caregivers in this last month. These ladies provided the most excellent care and loved on our mom 24 hours a day-Thank you Tori, Melissa, Christy, Debbie, Kristy, Nancy, Mary, Marita and Passages Hospice and staff, the nurses who cared for Mom, Bridget, Jessie, Kym and Cynthia-our most sincere thanks.
