Joseph Snyder

Joseph "Joe" Snyder of Bossier City passed away September 25, 2021 at Brookdale Assisted Living where he resided for six years. Joe was born March 2, 1931 in Emmitsburg, Maryland to Hiot and Annie Snyder. The second youngest of a large family, he grew up in the rural Gettysburg, Pennsylvania area. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force and having never left his rural home, he reveled in the sights, sounds and people of his new life in the military. He was posted in Japan where he served in the Honor Guard for General McArthur, in Morocco, Hawaii and Guam as well as several stateside bases. While at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marrieta, Georgia he met and married Katherine "Kay" Ford Hall, a civilian working on base, in 1954. He also became stepfather to James Hall, age 5. Kay was a native of Pineville, Louisiana so when Joe was looking ahead to retirement, they chose Barksdale Air Force Base as his last post, where he served until his retirement in 1964. Kay and Joe stayed in Bossier City. Kay worked on base and Joe worked first for the Association for the Blind and then for the State of Louisiana Tax and Revenue Department. They were active members of the First Methodist Church in Shreveport where each served stints as President of the Four Square Sunday School. They enjoyed traveling the country visiting family and the many friends they made during Joe's time in the Air Force. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Kay in 2005. He is survived by his step-son James Hall, wife Bonnie Hall, granddaughters Jennifer Hall Lorigo, Susannah Hall Hake and great-grandchildren James Lorigo, Ruby Lorigo and Amelia Hake, all of Southern California; his brother Fred Snyder of Amarillo, TX; nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was a kind, friendly and sociable man with a sly sense of humor. He loved nothing more than chatting and joking with friends and strangers alike. He passed peacefully while sitting on a rocking chair on Brookdale's front porch doing just that, greeting neighbors, staff and visitors. He will be missed by many. Joe will be interred in a family plot in Pollock, LA near Pineville. The family will plan a memorial service at a later date.
