Joseph Paul Meshell “J.P.”, 84, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on December 21, 2023. He was born on January 21, 1939, in Zwolle, Louisiana to Henry and Angeline LaRue Meshell.
J.P. was an avid Cowboys fan. He enjoyed Sundays talking to his brother James and sister Mildred and watching the Cowboys play. He always looked forward to lunch with Glynn Alderman and Johnny Ray Mouser, and yearly lunches with his Teamster buddies. He drove for Overnite until he retired in early 1990’s. J.P. was a proud member of Choctaw-Apache Nation in Zwolle, Louisiana and very rarely did he miss Powwow’s or the tamale festival in his hometown of Zwolle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margie and Merle; and brothers, Donald, Murray, and Marvin. Left to cherish his memory includes his son, Steve and wife Theresa; daughter, Cindy and husband Bob; sisters, Mildred and Bobbie Ann; brother, James and wife Johnie; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; along with his very dear friend of 30+ years, Dawn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Annual Powwow in Ebarb, Louisiana.
The family will lay J.P.’s ashes to rest in Zwolle at a later date.
