Joseph C. (Joey) Merritt

Joseph C. (Joey) Merritt, Jr., 67, of Shreveport, passed away on January 1, 2026, after a long illness. Date and place of memorial service to be determined.

Joey was a very kind and gentle man and always had a sweet smile. He was devoted to his family and loved them dearly. He enjoyed technology, camping, hunting, and spending time with friends.

Joey was born on November 15, 1958, in Minden, Louisiana, and grew up in Sibley. He attended school at the Parker Foundation in Dallas for a few years, then went to high school and graduated from Glenbrook School in Minden. He worked for the United States Post Office for over 40 years, retiring in 2022.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Dickinson Merritt. He is survived by his father, Joseph C. Merritt, Sr.: his sister, Cindy Goss and husband, Allen; his niece, Jennifer Hamer and husband, Nate, and his great nephew, Finley Hamer.

Joey will be deeply missed.
