Joey was born on November 4, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Mary Jo and Joseph A. Cannatella, Sr. On Friday, September 3rd, 2021, Joseph, a man of the people, the oldest brother to five siblings, a father to three children, and a friend to many, passed away at the tender age of 68 at his home in Keithville, Louisiana.
He loved baseball and played on several teams since he was a young boy. He played for Sunset Acres and continued on until around age 60, traveling the country playing in tournaments on slow and fast pitch teams. Mr. Cannatella attended Fair Park High School, Louisiana Tech University, Louisiana State University and then went on to graduate from Southern University Law School in 1974. He continued to practice law until the time of his death, as he loved helping others and using his law practice to do his mission of the Lord's work. He was a true example of a self-made man and living proof that no matter what situation you are born into, you can achieve anything you set your mind to with desire and hard work.
Mr. Cannatella had so many friends and went on many, many vacations with them over the years. He lived a wonderfully full life, jam packed with travels, adventure, sports, entertainment, risk, love, passion and joy. He truly lived his life to the fullest and understood the meaning of enjoying life. He loved to read and would easily read twenty books in a given year. He attended church every Sunday he was in town and dearly loved his childhood friend and Pastor, Brother Mike Stowell. He was married twice and had three children and two stepdaughters, whom he loved very much. Although he had a fun personality and easy disposition, he was a firm man with a strong moral compass and unquestionable ethics and values. His sense of adventure will live on in all who were able to experience his presence.
Mr. Cannatella is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jo and Joseph A. Cannatella, Sr. He is survived by his five siblings, Eddie Cannatella, Margaret Cannatella, Teresa Cassel, Linda Crenshaw and Johnny Cannatella, along with his three children, Julie Cannatella, Justin Cannatella and Jodie Dupuy Ford, six grandchildren; as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A few of his lifelong friends, whom he loved dearly, included Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Wicks, Mr. Chennault, Mr. Hendrix, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Bailey, Mr. Shehee, Brother Stowell, Ms. Stanford and so many, many others.
His family would like to specifically express special thanks to Mr. Steve Mitchell for his selfless, kindhearted and enduring friendship over the years; we love you.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations for the funeral at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana 71118.
