Johnny Ray Johnson, Sr.

Johnny Ray Johnson Sr., 71, of Shreveport, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017. He was born on April 26, 1946, to Alec Percy Johnson and Velva Mae Medlin Johnson in Shreveport, LA. He married Mabeth Butler on August 17, 1964, and they had 3 children, Tonya Lee Palmer, Johnny Ray Johnson Jr., and Robert Reed Johnson. He worked as a truck driver and retired from Republic Sanitation after 25 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose for 17 years as well as a member of Louisiana Horseshoe Pitcher Association. He loved to pitch horseshoes, play dominos, listen to music, and spending time with his friends and family. Johnny is survived by his spouse, Mabeth Johnson; daughter, Tonya Palmer; son, Johnny Johnson Jr. and his wife Kim; sister, Joann Gardner; grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyler, Brittney, Robert, Jonathan, Chasity, Ashley, Jeremy, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Alayna, Isaiah, Jeremy Jr., Gabriel, Kylee, and Brayleigh. Johnny Ray was very loved and had numerous in-laws, friends, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alec Percy Johnson and Velva Mae Medlin Johnson; brother, Alec Percy Johnson Jr; and son, Robert Reed Johnson. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Rose-Neath Southside located at 2500 Southside Dr. Shreveport, LA 71118. Funeral services will follow immediately after visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorial donations and can be sent to Johnson Family, PO Box 1760, Shreveport, LA 71166, to help the family defray funeral expenses.
