Mrs. Johnnie H. Wood, 90, went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Rapides Reginal Hospital in Alexandria, LA. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Southside on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 starting from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Wood was born February 5, 1928 in Hineston, LA. She attended and graduated at all her school years at Oak Hill High School in Hineston, LA. Mrs. Wood is the last of her graduating class of 1945. She was very active in church work and ministry. She labored lovingly at Holy Rosary until it closed and then took up duties at Sacred Heart Church. Her great love was the Saint Vincents DePaul. Mrs. Wood received the highest award which is the Bishops Award for Distinguished Service. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Leona Hilton; two sisters, Clyda Hilton and Mildred Lynch and brother, Lynell Hilton. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, James Wood Jr.; son, Jim Wood (Deborah); daughters, Kathy Burge (Tom) and Fran Bradshaw (James); brother, A.C. Hilton; grandchildren, Ty Wood, Wade Wood (Wendy), Clay Burge, Eric Burge (Ashley), Kelly Roberts (Lauren), Tracy Bradshaw, Elise VerHoef (Alan) and three special grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 6 special great-grandchildren. Honoring Mrs. Wood as pallbearers will be members of The Knights of Columbus, Brian Gallien, Larry French, Les Brosett, Walt Recker, BeBe Sanchez and Richard Guzman. Mrs. Johnnie, as she was lovingly called, will be greatly missed. She was a faithful wife, loving and caring mother and her love for the Lord showed through her service in reaching out to each person she came into contact with. Her joy in life was in serving others. Well done and welcome home thou good and faithful servant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincents DePaul at Sacred Heart Church or any charity of choice.
