Obituary

Funeral service celebrating the life of Johnnie Ruth Bass, 92, will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Tull officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Stanley, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Johnnie was born on February 5, 1934 in Houston, Texas to James Morgan Brown and Myrtis Noxola Roberts Brown and passed away October 5, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Johnnie Ruth Bass began her career in 1971, at the US Post Office in Logansport, LA as a postal clerk. She worked her way up to postmaster by March 3, 1984, by being a very hard worker. After 35 years with the post office, Johnnie retired in August of 2006.

Johnnie loved working outside in her yard. She was on her lawnmower daily, and if a limb fell, she was right there to pick it up. If anyone traveling on Hwy 84 in or around her house saw smoke, they knew she was burning something. Her yard was always clean and tidy. An old stump was her delight.

Johnnie also had a knack for fixing whatever broke around the house. From plumbing to changing out headlights in her beloved red Monty Carlo. She was also very handy with a saw too. She could tear out old flooring and had no trouble putting in new boards in for replacement. She was truly a go-get-it-done kind of woman. She rarely asked for help, that’s just the way she was.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtis and James Brown; brother, Earl Ray Brown; sister-in-law Jerri Brown; nephew, David Earl Brown, and niece, Karen Kay Brown.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Chuck Bass and wife Libby; daughter, Kim Palmer and husband Greg; grandchildren, Brennan LaFleur, Ty LaFleur, Drake Moore, Ben Bass, and Joe Bass.

Honoring Johnnie as pallbearers will be Greg Palmer, Brian LaFleur, James Moore, Brennan LaFleur, Ty LaFleur, Drake Moore.
