John Lane Mays, 69, of Greenwood, LA passed away on February 11, 2026 at 8:25 a.m. at LSU Ochsner Medical Center.
Lane is preceded in death by his parents, Miller Lawton Mays, Jr. and wife, Mildred Smith Mays of Greenwood, LA; brothers, Delwin Francis Mays of Shreveport, Miller Lawton Mays, III of Warsaw, Poland; son, Joseph Nicholas Taylor of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Rita Williams Mays of Longview, TX; and son-in-law, Kelly Douglas Larremore of Shreveport.
Lane is survived by the love of his life and lifelong best friend, wife, Kimberly Morris Mays of Greenwood; his three children, Jennifer Mays Larremore of Perdido, FL, Donald Ray Taylor, III, "Trip" Taylor and partner, Taylor of Greenwood, and Logan Bradlee Mays of Waskom, Texas; and brother, Foster Richard Mays of Longview, TX. He is also leaving behind a very special piece of his heart, granddaughters, Kayden Meshell Bates of Baton Rouge, LA, Dakota Ray Taylor and grandson, Barrett Nicholas Taylor, both of Greenwood, and another special granddaughter, Kamryn Noel Bates of Baton Rouge, LA; father and mother-in-law, Rusty and Sue Morris of Logansport; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Gary Wayne Timmons of Logansport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Shreva Morris of Shreveport and WC and Stacie Knight of Taneytown, MD; and sister-in-law, Katarzyna Mays of Warsaw, Poland.
Lane spent years doing what he enjoyed most, attending Open Range Fellowship Church, spending time with his family and friends, being a husband, father, and grandfather, the outdoors, hunting, taking trips with his wife and family, and loving his animals. He pursued his career as a Master Level Plumber. Later, he went on to build a business of his own, Lane Mays Plumbing where he helped young men learn the trade and grow careers for themselves. He was a man of God who loved the church and did everything he could to serve Christ by leading a good example. He was also a man with a huge heart. He valued blessings and never took what the Lord gave for granted. He will be missed profoundly by all who knew him and had the opportunity to become his friend.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Open Range Fellowship Church, 9950 US-80, Greenwood, LA. Burial and a graveside will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, LA. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dennis Aaron.
Honoring Lane as pallbearers will be Foster Mays, Michael Woolley, Jordan Taylor, Rick Haggard, Danny Weaver, and Alex Taylor. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rick Morris and Skylar Bates
Lane will be terribly missed but the family will always love him and cherish the time we had with him and all the beautiful memories we made together. When someone we love is gone, the ache is real, but so is the love that stays behind.
