John Dumont "Monty" Hugh

With heartfelt love and remembrance, the family of John “Monty” Hugh announces his peaceful passing on June 3, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 89.

🌲 A Life of Service, Family & Faith

Born on May 7, 1936, in North Bend, Oregon to John Hugh of England and Kathleen Allen of Ireland, Monty was raised with the values of hard work, humility, and service—principles that shaped his life and legacy. After graduating from St. Augustine High School in San Diego, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served as a jet mechanic. While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, he met his first wife, Gladys Brown, and together they had three children: Julie, John, and Sam.

💼 A Life of Dedication and Partnership

After his military service, Monty worked as a supply technician at Riley Beard, where he met Mary Robinette, who became his wife in 1974. Monty lovingly embraced Mary’s children — Gary, Greg, and Robyn — as his own, forming a close and supportive blended family. He and Mary shared a long and successful career in real estate, working together at Oscar Cloyd Realty, RE/MAX Realty, and Realty Executives. Mary retired in 2015, and Monty continued until his own retirement in 2018. They built a reputation for integrity and warmth that made a lasting impact in the Shreveport community.

🏡 A Life of Faith, Family & Joy

Monty was a devoted member of Ford Park Baptist Church and then Shreveport Community Church, where his quiet strength and steady faith were a constant presence. He also served as the enthusiastic football announcer for Evangel High School for many years, a role he filled with pride and joy. They called him, “The golden voice of the Eagles!” Along with his faith, he found his greatest happiness by the pool, surrounded by family and friends, where his dry wit, gentle humor, and love for storytelling created memories that will be cherished forever. His home was always open, his heart always full.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Loved Ones

Monty is survived by his children Julie Pickern, John Hugh, Sam Hugh, Gary Ralph, Greg Ralph, and Robyn Parker; his 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and his sister Mary. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Brown Hugh (1973); then his second wife, Mary Robinette Hugh (2020); brother, three sisters; and a stillborn child, Billy Joe Hugh (1953).

🕊️ Celebration of Life

A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home – Southside in Shreveport on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, Texas, in honor of his great-grandson, Jaxon Morgan.
