John Herbert Davis, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2024, in Stonewall, Louisiana.
A “Celebration of Life” Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at Salem Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Officiating the service will be Bro. Mike Hawkins.
John was born on May 17, 1941, in Beaumont, Texas, the oldest of two sons, to Herbert Wilkie and Iris Dunham Davis. At a young age, his family moved to Shreveport where he lived until moving to Stonewall in 2005. He was a 1959 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School. He attended Louisiana Tech for one year, then joined the IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship Program in Shreveport and graduated in 1965, following in his father’s footsteps. On December 6, 1963, he married the love of his life, Patsy Farley Davis, and raised three wonderful children. He was a devoted Husband, Dad, Papaw, Big Papaw, Friend, and the Fixer of all things. He was a man of many talents. He worked as a Master Electrician and was a proud member and officer of the IBEW Local #194 in Shreveport for over 60 years. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall.
John loved the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his time at the deer camp and in the woods. He also loved his LSU sports.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Iris Davis. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Patsy Farley Davis; daughters, Pam Davis Sanders and husband, Jay LeBlanc, and Kelly Davis Hughes and husband, Craig; son, Mark Davis and wife, April; brother, James B. Davis and wife, Kay. Carrying on his legacy are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christopher Sanders, Briana Detrick (Jada), Haley Sanders Randol and husband, Dustin (Caroline and Patrick), Brooke Davis Robertson and husband, Preston, (Wyatt, Waylon, and Owen), Chase Sanders and wife, Kathleen (Elizabeth and Everleigh), Blake Davis, Rylee Wilmot, Gracie Wilmot, Nicholas Hughes and wife, Marriell, and Nicole Hughes. He will be missed by numerous beloved family members and friends.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be Christopher Sanders, Chase Sanders, Blake Davis, Nick Hughes, Dustin Randol, and Preston Robinson. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the members of the IBEW Local #194.
