Funeral services for John M. Hay, 97, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Dr. Chad Hardbarger officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
John was born July 31, 1921 in Decatur, TX and went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2019 in Shreveport, LA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII for which he was recently honored in an interview with KSLA News.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Abigail Hay; wife, Ocie Hay; sons, Charles Bradford, Sonny Bradford, and James Hay; and two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, six brothers, and one sister. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Ocie Alline Jones and Tammy Miller; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bradford; sister, Mickey Burton; sister-in-law, Tobie Hay; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Bradford, Randy Bradford, Jim Hay, John Hay, Josh Anderson, and Nick Moore. Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Lewter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of donor's choice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his friends, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver and Frances Cooper and her son, Larry, for their compassion and neighborly assistance.
