John Travis Campbell

John Travis Campbell was born October 14, 1990, in Minden, LA and departed this life on January 9, 2022. Travis was a graduate of Glenbrook in Minden, where he was a starter on the state championship football team, and LSU Baton Rouge, where he was an avid Tigers fan. Travis had several careers in his brief, eventful life, but by far his favorite was as owner and host of the venerable Spanish Town Market in Baton Rouge, LA. Travis was outgoing and loved by all, never met a stranger, gave the best bear hugs, and loved making people laugh and feel welcome and special. His greatest gift was hospitality, and he delighted in creating feasts for family and friends; he was in his element in the kitchen or beside a grill. In fact, he approached life as a feast to be relished, and sampled as many dishes as possible. Travis was a lover of animals, costume parties, books, and music of all kinds, and as an accomplished guitarist he enjoyed "jamming" with friends and his stepfather. He was always ready to help others, whether by lending a hand, a listening ear, or an encouraging word. He was larger than life and created fun and excitement wherever he went. The world has lost a bright light with his passing, one that words could never adequately describe. Travis is survived by his beloved girlfriend Amanda Powell Peevy and her daughters Paisley and August (who called him "Crunch"), his older brother and best friend Taylor Campbell (Molly McCann), and his loving and devoted parents Nancy Tracy (Tom) and John Campbell (Mary). Also left to cherish his memory are his step siblings Mamie Hightower (Tad), Lili Cowles, Jimmy Cowles, Mike Tracy (Michelle), Joe Tracy (Vicky), and Declan Tracy. Travis was also the beloved "Uncle Crunch" to Charlie, Lucy, and Jack; a favorite cousin and nephew in his large extended family and had a wealth of treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Norman and Hilda Booker and Cecil and Josephine Campbell. A private service for immediate family will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Minden, LA. A larger celebration of Travis' life will be held for extended family and friends later this spring. The family requests no flowers, but encourages good deeds and bear hugs in his name or donations to favorite charities in his honor. The family also requests that everyone who knew and loved Travis share their photos and memories of him on Facebook at "Memories of Travis Campbell" and on Instagram @ Memories_of_Travis_Campbell. Details of the celebration of his life will also be posted on those platforms at a later date.
