John E. "Chuck" Byrd, 74, passed away on October 22, 2026, following a lengthy illness. He leaves behind a family who will always treasure the time they shared with him and the joy he brought into their lives.
A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at North Acres Baptist Church, 1852 Lewisville Rd. in Minden, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Steven Smithson will be officiating the service.
Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He found great joy in fishing, golfing, and duck hunting - hobbies that brought him happiness throughout his life. Above all, he valued his family and the time they spent together, creating a lasting legacy of warmth and connection.
After retiring from Mister Twister nearly three years ago, Chuck enjoyed the simple pleasures of time with family and friends. He built lasting relationships throughout his life and was known for his kindness, loyalty, and generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Jack Byrd, and his grandmother, Monie Berwick.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Byrd, with whom he shared a devoted marriage.
He also leaves behind his children, Joshua Byrd and his children, Jaelyn, Josie, and Harper; and Jessica Slone and her husband, Keith, and their daughter, Peyton. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and brought him great happiness.
He is also survived by his brother, Jack Byrd, Jr. and his wife, Peggy; his sisters, Mary McCullen and Patsy Bolton; his sister-in-law, Brenda Sepulvado; his brother-in-law, Benny Ramsey and his wife, Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck's presence enriched the lives of everyone who knew him. His family will carry forward the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the example he set through a life centered on family and friendship.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to LifePath Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Chuck and his family throughout this difficult time. Their dedication and comfort will always be appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Chuck's memory.
He will remain a cherished part of his family's life and will be remembered with gratitude and affection.
