Funeral services for Joann Ross Smith, 80, will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Grand Cane Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Andrew Brewster.
Joann was born September 25, 1942 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Paxton Ross and Irene Ross and passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Joann was married to Roy Smith for 40 years before his passing. She loved to sew especially for others. She had a passion for taking care of children in her home. She was a very caring, loving mother and grandmother (Nanny). She was the glue to her family with a huge heart and always lit up the room with her beautiful smile. She always put others before herself. She was a Christian lady that loved the Lord.
Joann is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Roy Smith; two brothers, Tommy Ross, and Lynn Ross; and special friend, Billy Roberts. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Vickie Bickham (husband, Donnie Bickham); son, Ronnie Smith; grandchildren, Ashley Obermeyer (husband, Jeff), Amber Johnson (husband, James), Jason Smith (wife, Karen); great-grandchildren, Katelyn Obermeyer, Kenzie Obermeyer, Jayden Obermeyer, Aiden Smith, Gage Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Joann as pallbearers will be Jayden Obermeyer, Jeff Obermeyer, Jackie Crader, Paxton Ross, Ronnye Johnston, and James Johnson. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Jason Smith.
The family suggest memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association on their website.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Lifepath Hospice, St. Joseph Carpenter House, and Sandy Pace for the wonderful care and compassion given to our mom.
