Joal Asbury McDonald

SHREVEPORT, LA - On October 10, 2016 God called Joal Asbury McDonald home. A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Springlake Senior Care Center, 8622 Line Ave., Shreveport. Rev. Anthony "Tony" Nations and grandson Kevin Thiemann will officiate. Joal was born on July 29, 1926 in Wichita Falls, TX to John William and Leutisha Mae McDonald. At an early age his family moved to Glorietta, New Mexico where he was raised. Just before graduating, with WWII raging, Joal enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Boxer. Upon returning from war he fulfilled the promise he made to his mother and graduated from Santa Fe High School. Joal met and married the love of his life, Betty, in 1951. Together they raised their family in Paris, TX where he was plant manager at Central Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Paris Texas Rotary Club and had perfect attendance for sixteen years. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Lodge in Paris, TX. He faithfully served God and attended First Christian Church and Calvary United Methodist Church in Paris, and after moving to Shreveport in 2008 attended Central Christian Church. Joal was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, and had a delightful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. Joal was preceded in death by his parents John and Mae McDonald and 5 siblings. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Betty Baker McDonald; son Lynn McDonald and wife, Joanne; daughter Laurette Thiemann and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Laurette Reynosa and husband, Ricky, Ryan McDonald and wife, Stephanie, Kevin Thiemann and wife, Stephanie, and Jody Thiemann and wife, Sam; great-grandchildren, Soren, Hudson, Ryann, Annie, Quinn, Taylor and Asher; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Springlake for all the care and support they gave to Joal. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, 2010 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport, LA 71118.
