Jo Alice Barbo Tyler

Our dear mother, Jo Alice Barbo Tyler, sadly passed away on October 8, 2022, at 74, with her children at her side. Jo Alice was born in Campti, Louisiana, on February 26, 1948, to Emily Barbo. She was a resident of Campti and Goldonna, Louisiana, her entire life. Mama Jo, or Mamaw Jo as she was known, was the matriarch of our family and the North Star who guided our faith and life decisions. Loved by many and adored by her family, Mama Jo always had a kind word, sage advice, or a fitting classical literature quote for anyone in need. Her love of books of all genres knew no bounds!

She married Kenneth Wayne Tyler at Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer in 1967 and is survived by her three children: Kenneth Wayne Tyler, Jr. (Wayne), husband of Marcie Megason Tyler of Ashland; Sheri Lynn Tyler of Goldonna; and Donna Kaye Tyler Vishnefski, wife of Donald Vishnefski of Benton;  her four grandchildren: Kenneth Wayne Tyler III (Kenny), William Casey Tyler, significant other of Malayna Prejean; Megan Leona Tyler; and Wesley Scott Lindamood; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren: Mallory Reign Bailey; Aurora Claire Tyler; and Trip Allen Tyler.

Jo Alice was a caring nurse who spent her professional life serving patients at nursing homes in Winnfield and Natchitoches and the prisoners at CCA in Winnfield. It is fitting that she was surrounded by the exceptional care given by the specialist, doctors, and nurses at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport at the time of her death. The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who took care of Mama Jo’s body and spirit as though she were part of their family.

Never one to seek the spotlight, Jo Alice’s wishes were to be cremated and for her ashes to be spread by her family. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity she has proudly supported for years, can be made in her name, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
