Funeral services for Jimmie Ray Meek 88, will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Briarwood Baptist Church, 1020 Highway 9 in Readhimer, Louisiana. Burial will follow at the Briarwood Cemetery in Readhimer, Louisiana. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be the Reverend Chase Burns and the Reverend Tom Brown. Jimmie was born on December 26, 1931 to James Louis Meek and Carrie Mae Hawkins Meek in Chestnut, Louisiana and passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020, on his father's birthday. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gracie Mae McCray Meek their sons; Jimmie Wayne Meek, Wendell Todd Meek, and daughter, Sheila Diane Meek Wilson. Mr. Meek is survived by twelve grandchildren; Christopher Meek, Cody Meek, Courtney Meek, Chase Meek, Joshua Meek, Amanda Meek, Tiffany Meek, Logan Meek, Clay Provenza, Calli Provenza, Kyle Wilson and Gracie Wilson. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his brothers; Elgy E. Meek, and his wife Loda M. Meek of Shreveport, Louisiana, James E. Meek and his wife, Sybil M. Meek of Sibley, Louisiana, and brother-in-law, James T. McCray and wife, Betty of Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Meek was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana and worked for Western Electric and Lucent Technologies as a telecommunications and network installer for 28 years. He is a decorated veteran of the U. S. Navy and the Korean War, serving from 1952 to 1956. His service decorations include the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Navy Good Conduct Medal. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents and brother's Thomas Wesley Meek, James Louis Meek Jr. and Aubriton Meek. Honoring Jimmie as pallbearers will be brother's Elgy E. Meek, James E. Meek, nephew Terry Michael Meek, grandson's Christopher D. Meek, Chase Meek, Cody Meek, Joshua Todd Meek and John Clayton Provenza. Following behind the casket will be granddaughters Courtney Meek, Amanda Walters, Calli Provenza and Tiffany LeAnn Meek Entrevia. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Logan Kyle Meek, Michael McCray, Steven McCray, Heather Sanders, and Protus "Bo" Wilson. The family would like to express special thanks to Terry Meek and Leigh Anne Meek, Elgy E. Meek, Jena Aaron, Cassandra, Janet, Angie, Nene and the entire staff of Garden Park Nursing Home for their care and compassion given to Jimmie during his illness.
