Funeral services for Jessie Lee House Wood, 93, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Causey, interim pastor of Kingston Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Funeral home visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018.
Jessie went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in Shreveport, LA, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of the Wave Community in Princeton, AR, and resided in Shreveport since 1944. Jessie, the daughter of Reyburn and Dollie House (both deceased), was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Abner Ray (Pete) Wood, and her brother, Joel House.
She graduated from Princeton High School and Draughton-Norton Business School, was employed as a secretary at Beaird Industries, and subsequently retired from a local CPA firm. Jessie was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church, serving as the Historian and a devoted choir member, and was a long-time member of the Shreveport Transit Ladies' Auxiliary.
Jessie is survived by son, Gaylon Wood and wife Patsy of Dayton, TX; daughter, Donna Whorton and husband Charles of Plano, TX; grandson, Doug Wood of Etoile, TX; granddaughter, Melissa Whorton Shaw and husband John of Burleson, TX; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Bennie Delaney of Shreveport, LA; brother, Raymond House and wife Marjorie of Shreveport, LA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
