Funeral services will be held for Mr. Jerry E. Torbet, age 86, at First United Methodist Church in Homer, LA, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Danny Baskin, officiating. Interment will be in Homer, LA, at Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m.
Uncle Jerry was born June 1, 1936, in Homer, LA, to Maggie Eastep and James W. Torbet, Sr. He suffered a stroke and passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Village on Friday, June 3, 2022, in Homer, LA. At the young age of seven, Uncle Jerry fell out of the back of a truck and suffered a head injury. He was not expected to survive the injury, but had a long life despite the head trauma. Uncle Jerry was a huge LSU fan and his favorite colors were purple and gold. He would watch every game and even got the opportunity to attended a game with Jimmy, one of his many nephews
Uncle Jerry was preceded death by his parents; brother, J.W. Torbet, Jr.; and two sisters, Sylvia Torbet and Rosemary Pillow.
He is survived by his sister, Jan McNeil of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to his nephew Black Torbet and his wife Penny for the care and compassion given to their uncle for over 21 years. It is with gratitude from the family for the help, assistance and aid given Uncle Jerry over the last year with meals, cleaning and the personal attention. Also, we would like to thank the caregivers of Claiborne Home Health nurses, Shelly Allen and Priscilla Pitts, Compassus Hospice nurse Mary Book, the staff at Presbyterian Village, as well as his church family of First United Methodist Church of Homer.
