Graveside services was held for Jerry Wayne Hightower, age 75, at Tulip Cemetery in Athens, LA, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Keith Lee and Tommy Gore, officiated. Visitation was on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 405 E. 5th Street, Homer, LA., from 5-7 p.m.

 

Jerry was born June 9, 1948, in Minden, LA, to W.C. “Bill” and Beatrice Stevens Hightower. He entered into rest on October 14, 2023, in Shreveport, LA. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved deer, dove, and squirrel hunting, as well as bass, perch or fly fishing. Jerry always had a garden where he raised just about every edible vegetable for his family. Later in life he would raise daylilies with his precious wife, Pam. Jerry with a few others coached T-ball, softball and Coed softball. He was a Boy Scout Cubmaster mentoring young boys for several years. He instilled strong work ethics in his children teaching them at an early age that nothing is just given to you. Jerry was a Jack-Of-All-Trades who worked for M&M Hardware. He was always willing to help others solve their home and yard problems. Jerry loved to travel with his family where they enjoyed the mountains and the Buffalo River on family vacations. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather that will be greatly missed.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, David Pixley.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pam Pixley Hightower; son, Michael W. Hightower of Homer, LA; two daughters, Jennifer Holloway and husband Brad of Athens, LA, and April Smith and husband Brandon of Athens, LA; brother, Bill Hightower and wife Kathy of Homer, LA; six grandchildren, Emilee Holloway, Luke Holloway, Lane Hightower, Katie Hightower, Lillie Smith and Pixley Smith; as well as other relatives and friends.

 

Jerry’s family would like to express their gratitude to Herman Webb, caregiver for the care and compassion given him during Jerry’s final days.

 

Pallbearers were Billy Wayne Taylor, Wayne Volentine, Tommy Gore, Keith Owens, Larry Wallace, Robert Jones, Dennis Butcher, and Russell Hightower.

 

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Zey, Herman Webb, Coach G.W. Zachary, JR, and Ken Heard.

 

In lieu of flowers honoring Jerry, his family suggests memorials be made to The Hemispherectomy Foundation, info@hemifoundation.org  in honor of his first granddaughter, Emilee or Misfit Farms Rescue and Sanctuary, misfitfarms1615@aol.com in honor of his love for strays.
