JD Bradford

JD Bradford passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 95. He was born in Dry Creek, LA. JD led a life of dedication, service, and a love for his family and country.

JD embarked on a varied career journey that began at the young age of 16 when he worked on a highway road crew building roads throughout the southern part of the state. His career momentarily paused as he served his country in the US Army from 1948 to 1951as a medic during the Korean war. After his military service, he worked at the Continental Trailways bus station in Shreveport where he met his future wife, Jedonne Kelly, on Easter Sunday 1952. They were married in October of 1953 and celebrated 67 years together. His future career paths took him to Homelite, Wonder Bread, Universal Oil Products, and ultimately retiring from AT&T (former Western Electric) in 1992.

Known for his hardworking nature, JD was also a skilled mechanic who could fix anything with a motor. He loved his garden and old country music, particularly the songs of Hank Williams, Sr. In later years he enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching the birds and squirrels around the bird feeder. He also liked the weekly visit from the neighbor’s pig, Hammy, who would also come over to eat the dropped birdseed and occasionally join him on the porch to relax. Spending time on the front porch in his rocking chair with his beloved dogs, Sugarbabe and Trumpie, was always one of his favorite things to do.

JD was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene. His life was a testament to his strong values and beliefs and helping others.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Davis (Robert) of Shreveport, LA; son, Kent Bradford of Keithville, LA; sister, Sheila Green (Earnest) of Crosby, TX; brother, LJ Bradford of Huffman, TX; three grandchildren, Brandon Bradford (Erin) of Shreveport, LA; Derrick Hudgens (Brittney) of Crown Point, Indiana; Taylor Burr (Brandon) of Hutto, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jaxton Bradford, Easton Bradford, Tanner Bateman, Maverick Burr, and a soon-to-arrive, Jackson Burr. JD also leaves a host of extended family and friends who will miss him.

JD was preceded in death by his loving spouse, Jedonne; parents, Homer and Virsa Bradford; and brothers, Huey, Clovese, and Byron Bradford.

We will cherish all the fond memories and the time we had together. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at The Carpenter House and Montclair Park in Shreveport LA. A memorial service to honor our father will be held at a future date.
