Janis Stroud

A funeral service celebrating the life of Janis Elaine Stroud, 78, will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Coushatta, 2000 Alonzo Street, Coushatta, Louisiana, with Bro. Bubba Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Ringgold, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time. The service is under the direction of Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Janis was born on December 20, 1946, in Vivian, Louisiana, to Charles Leonard and Laurette Giddens Davis and passed April 9, 2025, at Christus Highland Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She grew up in Red River Parish and graduated from Coushatta High School as a member of the class of 1964. She continued her education at Ringgold Trade School. Her first job was with Dr. Priddy in Shreveport, Louisiana, after that was Tyler Insurance. Janis worked for the Red River Parish School Board for 30 years until she retired in 2013. Janis and Steve were married for almost 40 years and were life-long members of First Baptist Church of Coushatta. She was a member of Emmaus Sunday School Class. She also taught Sunday School for many years as well as sang in the choir and played handbells.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Laurette Davis and C. L. “Red” Davis; in-laws, John and Minnie Mae Stroud, brother-in-law, Floyd A. Jones; and great-nephew, Peyton Davis Lane.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Steven Stroud; sister, Phail Dean Jones; sister-in-law, Stephanie Rice (Chad); nephew, Dan Jones (Patricia); nieces, Cheryl Jones, Amy Fortenberry (Darin), and Allison Lane; great-nieces, Michel Duvall (Moss), Chelsea Dykes (Stephen), and Gianna Lane (Nick); great-nephews, Spencer Lane (Chloe) and Mayson Lane; great-great nieces and nephews, Ashton Dykes, Brynn Duvall, Tucker Duvall, Jaxon Dykes, Ellie Duvall, Penelope Lane, Rowan Dykes, and Launa Lane; and special friends, Sheryl Robinson and Kay Easley.

Honoring Janis as pallbearers will be Dan Jones, Darin Fortenberry, Moss Duvall, Justin McKnight, Rayburn Covington and Tommy Glen Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Coushatta, 2000 Alonzo Street, Coushatta, Louisiana, 71019; or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
