Janice was born on March 1, 1939, to E.H. and Jimmie Chase in LeCompte, Louisiana, and passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, in her home in Sibley, Louisiana.

At the age of seven, she moved with her parents to Alexandria, Louisiana. She attended Bolton High School and later continued her education at Louisiana College, where she majored in music. It was during her time there that she met the love of her life, Jerry LaPrarie. The two were married on August 22, 1958, in Alexandria, beginning a lifelong partnership built on devotion, faith, and shared joy. A gifted musician, Janice was an accomplished pianist and organist who shared her talent generously throughout her life. She worked for T.L. James in Ruston and later for Interstate Insurance Underwriters in Shreveport, bringing dedication and grace to every role she held.

In her later years, Janice found delight in all things creative. Whether crocheting, painting, antiquing, or scrapbooking, she poured her heart into every project, leaving behind pieces of beauty that reflected her gentle spirit. More than anything, Janice cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely and the memories she created with those she held closest.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry LaPrarie; grandson, Ryan Oliveaux; infant grandson, Emerson LaPrarie; parents, E. H. and Jimmie Chase; sister, Jimmie Lynn Chase; and daughter-in-law, Karen LaPrarie.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Terry LaPrarie, Barry LaPrarie and wife, Michelle, Larry LaPrarie, Kay Thompson, and husband, Dan, and Gary LaPrarie and wife, Sadie; grandchildren, Terri Southwell, and husband, Zack, Jessica Oliveaux, Jenna Fortenberry and husband, Jason, Morgan LaPrarie, Barry LaPrarie, Jr., Anna LaPrarie, Lindsey LaPrarie, and Gary LaPrarie, Jr.; great- grandchildren, Lizzie and Ryan Southwell, Kennedy and Stetson Pittman, and Benjamin and Emersyn Fortenberry.
