Janet Lee Williams Wigton

Janet Lee Williams Wigton passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026 from complications from a stroke. Janet was born March 17, 1939 in Dayton, Pennsylvania to Gordon and Bernice Williams. Janet was number six of their seven children. According to her recollections of her childhood, being one of the youngest, she just “may have been a little spoiled”. Janet grew up in Dayton and graduated from Dayton Joint High School in 1957. She had fond high school memories and was proud to have been chosen “Most Mischievous” along with her friend Paul Dickey.

Soon after graduating she married and had two children, Jeffrey and Marcy. Janet’s life took some twists and turns that led her to Illinois, where her daughter Jamie was born, then to Michigan, and eventually to Louisiana. In the early eighties, with her husband, James (Jim) Wigton , she shared a business, J & J Auto Parts. Together they not only supplied customers with auto parts, but also the expertise to fix their cars with a friendly ear to lend support. They were both beloved in the J & J neighborhood.

Janet and Jim relished the role of being grandparents. They were known as “Nunny & Pa” after the birth of Billy who gave them their grandparent names. Those who held the key to her heart simply knew her as Nunny. Nunny & Pa were always available to spend time with their grandchildren. They had a big pool that hosted many “little people” pool days & evenings.

Nunny once wrote that she hoped to leave a legacy of love and giving to her family and friends. She had the opportunity to work at Herndon Magnet School while her grandchildren attended. She made lasting impressions on many kids and teachers.

Surviving Janet is her son, Jeffrey Smith and wife Manessa of Horseshoe Bay, TX, her daughter, Marcy Smith Murray and her husband Bill of Shreveport, LA, and her daughter Jamie Wigton Moore and her husband Jerry of Blanchard, LA. Nunny was blessed with seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother Bill and wife Sherri of Rural Valley, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by her husband of fifty- one years, James Wigton; her first husband, Donald B. Smith; her parents; her sisters, Betsy and Sally; and her brothers, Pete, Bud, and Bob.

Even though Janet ended up in Bossier City, LA she was a Pennsylvania girl through and through. She considered PA to be her homeland and cheered her beloved Steelers at every opportunity. Go Steelers!

Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until service time. Officiating the service will be Reverend Andrew Brewster.
