Funeral services for James R. Thornell will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tommy Patton.
James R. Thornell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 71. Born on August 25, 1953, James dedicated his life to both his family and his career, working with Kansas City Railroad, where he began his journey at the tender age of 17 and continued until his well-deserved retirement.
James was known for his kind-hearted nature and selfless demeanor. Putting the needs of others before his own was a hallmark of his character, and his generous spirit touched the lives of many. He had a unique ability to bring joy to those around him with his vibrant sense of humor and mischievous antics, earning him the title of a natural jokester among his friends and family. His laughter was infectious, and he had a remarkable knack for turning ordinary moments into lasting memories, always ensuring those in his presence felt uplifted and valued.
A man of many interests, James found solace and happiness in the great outdoors, particularly through fishing and hunting, the latter being his favorite pastime. He cherished the adventures he shared with friends and family in nature, creating memories that would be held dear by those fortunate enough to join him. Additionally, James had a passion for travel, enjoying numerous vacations with his wife, which included embarking on over two dozen cruises, forging deeper connections and experiencing the wonders of the world together.
An avid sports enthusiast, James was a die-hard fan of the Texas Rangers and the New Orleans Saints. His loyalty to these teams was unwavering, and he always enjoyed engaging in spirited conversations about their games, sharing his insights, and cheering them on with passion.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Lillie Mae Thornell; son, James Richard Thornell, Jr.; sister, Lillian Chaney; brothers, Clifton Thornell, Jr. and Bobby Thornell. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Annette Thornell; daughters, Robin Strawbridge, Rebecca Lee and husband, Chris and Ashley Evans; grandchildren, Ashton and wife, Maddie, Emerson, Alex, David, Luke and Amber; great- grandson, Hunter; sisters, Nancy Brown and Carole Walker and husband, Charles along with his beloved dog, Winston and cat, Jade.
Honoring James as pallbearers will be Travis Thornell, Billy Thornell, Chris Thornell, Jay Brown, Charles Walker, and Chris Lee. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Colin Evans.
