James "Jim" Marlon Latta

James "Jim" Marlon Latta was born July 20th, 1947 to William Marlon Latta and Ruby Helen Escoval Latta. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Ruby, and father, William. Jim is survived by his wife, Camille Latta; sister, Linda Carr of Fort Walton Beach, FL; children, Jeffery Earl Latta of Lake Charles, LA and Shannon Rene Latta Smith of Red Oak, TX; grandchildren, Samantha Nichole Alphin Miller, Kati Scarlett Latta McCombs, William James Latta, Sheri Marie Alphin; step grandchildren, Chris Alphin, Kenneth Alphin, Ashley Howard, Abbygail Smith; great-grandchildren, Halen McCombs, Kate Miller, and Axl McCombs; and multiple nieces and nephews. Jim passed away on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022 at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as an airplane mechanic. He ended his career as Staff Sergeant in 1970. After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Shreveport, Louisiana and worked a few jobs until he found his place at General Electric in Bossier City. He continued his career as an electrical engineer at Southwest Engineers. This is where he was well known in the Southwest Louisiana area for his skills and expertise. Jim retired from Emerson Electric in January 2014 and spent his days working in his shop. Anyone who knew Jim, knew that he always had multiple projects going on. It was not unusual for him to be halfway through a project and then his attention be drawn to another project. He worked on anything from wood working, home improvements, rebuilding cars, and reading up on the next new technology. He could build anything from furniture to wooden toys for his grandkids. He could take a car engine apart and put it back together as well as completely refinish the body of the car and repaint it. The car would look and run better than a brand new car. Jim leaves a long list of people who cared for him deeply, and he will be missed tremendously. Memories of Jim will forever be in our hearts.
