James Edward Nugent passed away in a home fire on December 25, 2020. He was residing in Many, Louisiana at the time of his passing. Jamie was born in Logan, Utah on April 24, 1958 to Gerald M. Nugent, as he was receiving his degree in Biology at Utah State University and Christina L. Nugent (Schade), she worked secretarial positions to support her growing family. They welcomed their firstborn son with love and joy. Jamie\'s childhood was spent growing up on US Fish and Wildlife Refuges and exploring the many different and diverse posts in which his family was stationed. The outdoors was his world. Endless forts were built, games invented outdoors, and imagination soared in the most beautiful areas of our country. The family moved from Utah, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Virginia, Iowa, Missouri, and Colorado. Each home brought Jamie friendships and life experiences. His childhood was spent learning to hunt and fish under the guidance of his dad, and that love has continued through his life. James was never happier than being beside water, being able to quietly fish, or being able to hunt in the Rocky Mountains with his father, Jerry and his brother, David.
After graduation from high school Jamie enlisted in the USAF. He served 22 years within the Air Force working at Kessler AFB, Ellsworth AFB, Altus AFB, Clark AFB, Rhein-main AFB, and Fairchild AFB during his time of service. James retired as a Master Sergeant in 1999 and had spent close to 20 of those years specializing on Communication and Navigational systems maintenance craftsman on a variety of mobility of aircraft. His service included tours overseas into the Middle East in support of Operations Desert Storm and Provide Comfort. After retiring, James stayed active with his local American Legion Post in Arvada, Colorado. Following his Air Force retirement, James worked in the private security field for businesses in the Denver, Colorado area. He found great satisfaction and fulfillment in working these jobs and the friends he made.
In 1999, James married his girlfriend from when his family had first moved to Arvada, Colorado - Shelly-Jean Sartor. Their marriage included a love of travel and a love of family. They loved spending quality time with each of their nieces and their nephew. They also loved working together to create a beautiful home and garden area. James took enormous pride in his rose garden! Eventually, James and Shelly-Jean opened their home and their hearts to Shelly-Jean\'s nephew, Nathanael upon his birth in 2003. They traveled frequently to Hawaii and wherever they could take Nathanael to show him new experiences. As he grew into a young man, James became heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America so they could experience the joys of scouting together.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gerald M. and Christina L. Nugent. He is survived by his brother, David (Heather) Nugent; his nieces, Cara and Casey Nugent; his sister, Mary (Steve) Goldenberg; his nephew, Adam (Andrea); and his niece, Emily Goldenberg. James\'s laugh and his spirit of fun will be missed and remembered. James loved and he cared generously.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Legion Post #161, 6230 West 60th Ave., Arvada, CO 80003 (303) 424-0324.
James Edward Nugent, "You served your family and your country well. May you now stand down, your duty is done. Rest in peace."
