James Edward Mullins went to his eternal home on August 27, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel conducted by Dr. Chad Hardbarger, Rev. Harry Forester, and Rev. Mike Stowell. Burial will follow at Forest Park West. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Southside between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018.
James was born on September 5, 1927 in Ruleville, MS to Clyde and Kate Mullins. He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1946.
After graduating, he served in the Army. Finishing his military service, he went to work for South Central Bell and retired in 1985 with 40 years of service.
James loved his church and all of his friends at Emmanuel Baptist Church. James knew the Lord and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. James always considered it an honor to serve as a deacon, and he taught a Sunday School class for many, many years. James commented many times how the Lord had blessed him with a good family, long life, and good health.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Mullins; son, Larry Wayne Mullins and wife Kim; daughter, Diane Mullins Deas and husband Dana; grandchildren, Wayne Mullins and wife Heather, Scott Mullins and wife Rebecca, Cameron Mullins and wife Katie, Rachel Deas O'Neal and husband Michael, and Rebecca Deas Howell and husband Matt; and eight great-grandchildren. James and Dorothy were preceded in death by their eldest son, John Allen Mullins on January 23, 2010 due to a brain tumor and grandson, David Andrew Deas.
Pallbearers are Burt Grubbs, Harry Fletcher, Wayne Mullins, Cameron Mullins, Scott Mullins, Michael O'Neal, and Matthew Howell. Honorary pallbearers are his dear, dear sweet Christian friends at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5850 Buncombe Rd., Shreveport, LA 71129.
