HOMER, LA: Dr. James Robert Michael passed away March 1, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born March 13, 1929 to Joseph M. Michael and Carrie Mahfouz Michael. Dr. Michael was a lifetime resident of Homer.James Robert graduated from Homer High School in 1947 where he played on the football team. He received his BS cum Laude in 1952, his MBA in 1968, and his DBA in 1973 all from Louisiana Tech University. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, as well as the business honor society of Beta Gamma Sigma.James Robert served in the U. S. Navy from Aug. 4, 1952 until May 28, 1954. He began his professional career as the Plant Controller/Office Manager of Ludlow (now Berry Plastics) in Homer, working there for 13½ years. He then became a teacher/researcher at Louisiana Tech's College of Business while working on his doctoral degree in the school's newly-established DBA program. Three years after earning his doctoral degree he became the Director of the college's Public Service Economic Research Division, serving in that position for 22 years until his retirement.His passions included opera, golf, and good food. He loved and was deeply devoted to his large family, many of whom preceded him in death including his parents, four sisters: Marpheae and husband Bob Antoon; Teify Michael; Lucille Michael; and Marguerite Michael and four brothers: Bertrand Michael, Ellis Michael, Fred Michael and wife Jewel, and Joe Michael and wife Margie. Dr. Michael is survived by his brother Dr. Ed Michael and wife Marie of Alexandria, his nephews Paul Michael and wife Debbie of Lake Village, Arkansas; Joe Ellis Michael and wife Venetia of Homer; David Michael and wife Caroline of Fort Worth, Texas; Kevin Michael and wife Debbie of Marksville; and Michael Antoon of Natchitoches, and nieces Michele and husband Miguel Beltran of Mexico City, Mexico; Anne and husband Michael Pappas of New Orleans; Leah Michael of New Orleans; Lucy and husband Robert Hamilton of Greensboro, North Carolina; Patricia and husband Phil Schenck of Panama City Beach, Florida; April and husband Jimmy Hand of Homer, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. They will all greatly miss their Uncle James.The family would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers who assisted Dr. Michael and to all front-line medical workers and support staff who give so much to care for our community. A small family graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. for the inurnment of his ashes. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Michael requested memorials be made to either St. Margaret's Catholic Church (c/o St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Fincher Rd, Minden LA 71055), St. Jude, or Main Street Homer (419 West Main Street, Homer, LA 71040).
