James Norman Lewis

James Norman Lewis, 94, passed away Thursday April 1, 2021 in Haughton, Louisiana. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA 71109. There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 4, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana 71111. Reverend Scott O'Rear will officiate the service. Norman was born, February 9, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Revis Homer and Rubye Young Lewis. He attended Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Finuf, who helped him with his schoolwork by doing his homework. They both graduated in 1944. After graduation Norman joined the United States Navy where his spent two years as an electrician on the USS Thornhill. When honorably discharged from the Navy, he came back to Shreveport to marry his love, Elizabeth, on February 21, 1948 and joined the Shreveport Fire Department. Norman was the first instructor on the fire department to train other firemen in CPR. Upon retiring from the fire department in 1974, he and his wife bought an RV and joined the Louisiana Drifter RV Club. They traveled all over the United States, but when at home, Norman enjoyed hunting and fishing. Norman was an active member of Belle Park Baptist Church in Haughton, Louisiana. James is preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell R. Lewis; brother, Michael K. Lewis and wife, Dena. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth Lewis; son, Michael Lewis; granddaughters, Leslie M. Turner and Amanda E. Chambers; great-grandson, Cameron Chambers and great-granddaughters, Peyton Chambers, Calleigh Coggins, and Olivia Turner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
