HOMER, LA: James Oscar "J.O." Haywood, 68 a lifelong resident of Homer, Louisiana and Lake Claiborne passed away in his home on November 27, 2019. He was born on October 16, 1951 in Elkhart, Kansas to Oscar Joseph and Thelma Taunton Haywood.J.O. was a graduate of Homer High School where he was a member of the Homer High Fighting Pelicans and he was also a member of the Homer High Marching and Concert Band. After high school he graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Business. He then attended "Mud School" in Houston and became a well sought after Chemical Drilling Fluids Engineer in the oil field working for IMCO and then Baker Hughes. J.O. loved to hunt and fish.J.O. was preceded in death by his parents, O.J. Haywood and Thelma Taunton Haywood.He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Renea and Don Burch; a niece, Morgana Burch; a nephew, Christopher Burch; a great-nephew, Hayden Burch; a great-niece, Isabella Dean. He is also survived by his three aunts, Pat Odom of Rayville, LA., Joyce King of West Monroe, LA, and Margaret Higginbotham of Spring, TX; two uncles, Wendell Taunton of West Monroe, LA, and Billy Joe Taunton of Homer, LA.; and numerous cousins and friends.Pallbearers will be Christopher Burch, Hayden Burch, Ronnie Anderson, Mark Poss, Gary Smith, and Ken Smith.Honorary pallbearers will be Wyatt Beville, John Eaves, Ryan Harmon, Charles Lewis, Sydney Smith, Wayne Volentine, Wayne Woodham, Tommy Whitman, past and present Homer High Fighting Pelicans football team.The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Haynes for his many years of care and friendship. Also they would like to thank Ken Smith, Mark Poss, and John Eaves for being there when his family needed them. They would also like to thank Sheriff Elect Sam Dowies, Cynthia Sandifer, Bro. Steven Beard and Amy Beard for their love and support on the night of J.O.'s death.Funeral services were held for J.O. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Homer, LA, on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Marcell McGee and Rev. Freddie Wideman, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 30, 2019, from 5-7 p.m.
