SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of James R. "Bob" Dykes, 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, at North Highlands United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Caraway officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Bob was born June 24, 1926, in Pleasant Hill, LA to Ruby Cecelia Perley Dykes and David Leroy Dykes and passed away peacefully June 21, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. He retired from Sally Grocery Co. after 35 years. He was an active member of his church where he was founder and coordinator of the North Highlands United Methodist Church Wheelchair Ramp Ministry. He was also a Shriner.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Rev. D.L. Dykes, Jr. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years Lucille Morris Dykes; sons, Robert H. Dykes and wife Leslie and Donald R. Dykes and wife Kathy; daughter, Kathy Sue Weaver and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Robby Dykes, Christopher Garrett, Crystal Hemphill, Jason AvéLallemant, Angela Dean, Bryan Dykes and Jennifer Eaton; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Honoring Bob as pallbearers will be his Ramp Ministry buddies, Steven Barnhart, Ken Berry, Ben Brando, Mike Brando, Smitty Brown, Dave Burroughs, Mike Burton, Ken Crane, Pat Dodd, Stephen Dungan, Michael Eaton, Milton Geltz, Carl Higginbotham, Steve Nausbaum, Billy Pugh, Jason Rampmayer, Paul Rechard, Lewis Rigby, Jim Roberts, Ken Sanders, Frank Seals, Chuck Strickland, Mitch Timmons and Shawn Welmunster.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Garden Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and staff for their love, care and support.
