MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral services honoring the life of James Hamilton Dixon, 76, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Rose-Neath's Chapel in Mansfield, LA with Reverend Kathy Fitzhugh and Mary Jo Babcock officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, LA. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
James was born February 24, 1942 in Shreveport, LA to Mary and P.E. Dixon and entered into rest on October 21, 2018. He was a member of Mansfield First United Methodist Church. He served honorably in the United States Navy.
James was Troop 38 Assistant Scout Master and Scout Master; Troops 38, 33, and 83 Unit Commissioner, Netami Assistant District Commissioner, and District Commissioner. He attended five National Order of the Arrow Conferences, went to Philmont Scout Ranch three times, attended the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA in 1957, Fort AP Hill (2nd Asst. Scout Master) in 1989, Fort AP Hill (Staff) in 1993. He attended the World Jamboree in Canada (2nd Asst. Scout Master) in 1983 with his son Richard.
Preceding James in death were his parents, and sister, Patricia "Tricia". Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Richard Dixon of Ft. Worth, TX; grandsons, Colin and Connor Dixon; brother, Preston Dixon of Challis, ID; nephew, Cameron Dixon of Boston, MA; niece, Leah Pallat and husband Jeffrey of Boise, ID; great nephew, Parker Hawkins; great niece, Lillian Pallat; and numerous other cousins. Special friends, Lorreta Woodward, Caryl Church, Judy Pinkerton, and Katherine Aulds.
Honoring James as pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Huff, Bill Netherland, Jim Babcock, Francis White, Ben Politz, Ken Nichols, Pete Taylor, and Tim Cefalu. Honorary pallbearers will be all members, past and present, of Caddo Lodge 149 Order of the Arrow, BSA.
James's family would like to thank all the staff at Azalea Estates, Willis Knighton Pierremont and LifeCare Pierremont for the friendship, comfort and care they provided over the past several years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Caddo Lodge 149, Attn. Amanda Denler, 3508 Beverly Place, Shreveport, LA 71104; St. Jude's Hospital, or American Diabetes Association.
