James Harold DaGata

A graveside service for James Harold DaGata, 76, will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7979 Mike Clark Rd., Keithville, Louisiana.

James dedicated his life to service, courage, and hard work, shaping a legacy that will never be forgotten. A proud veteran of the Vietnam era, peacetime, and Gulf War era, he served in the United States Air Force during two enlistments, from October 25, 1968, to October 24, 1972, and later from April 1, 1979, to August 18, 1995. His commitment to aviation and defense kept military aircraft in operation, ensuring they were battle-ready when duty called.

During his time in Vietnam, he endured the dangers of enemy fire at Da Nang, where bases were frequently rocketed and mortared. Working on C-130 cargo planes and CH-3E helicopters, he was no stranger to the sound of sniper bullets pinging against aircraft, reminding him daily of the risks he faced to keep equipment running. His courage and dedication never wavered, even as he witnessed the loss and hardship of war.

James continued his career as an Avionics Technician, working with STS Services Inc., Penco Inc., and Airplane Inc. His expertise led him to Barksdale Air Force Base, where he worked on B-52 bombers, and to positions with Evergreen Inc., Lear Siegler Inc., and the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. He was a proud graduate of Metropolitan Vocational Tech High School in New York, furthering his education in aircraft electrical repairs at Chanute AFB, ABC Trade School in Tucson, the Community College of the Air Force in Huntsville, AL, and LSU of Shreveport, LA.

Beyond his work, James found joy in watching old westerns, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He was a dedicated worker, a problem solver, and a valued colleague whose presence was deeply appreciated by those who worked alongside him.

His service, his kindness, and the legacy he leaves behind will be honored always. Though he is gone, his impact remains—in the skies he helped keep safe, in the friendships he built, and in the memories carried by all who knew him.
