Oil City, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of James Alton Clifton, Sr, age 71 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Ferry Lake Baptist Church, 10179 Ferry Lake Road, Oil City, LA. Officiating at the service will be his son, James Alton Clifton, Jr, Rev. Bill Lott and Rev. Bill Treadway. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Oil City, LA. There will be a time of visitation on Friday, September 7th from 6-8 p.m. at Ferry Lake Baptist Church.
Mr. Clifton was born on March 11, 1947 in Atlanta, TX to his parents, James Willie Clifton and Sweetie Bell Humphrey Clifton and passed away on September 4, 2018 in Vivian, LA after a sudden illness. He was a resident of Oil City, LA; retired Chief Master Sergeant for the U. S. Air Force; longtime member, deacon, and clerk for Ferry Lake Baptist Church; member of the Rotary Club, Ward II and Councilman for Oil City for numerous years. Mr. Clifton taught welding at North Caddo Magnet High School for several years, loved to bowl, fish and go camping with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a man of many talents.
Mr. Clifton is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Earl Clifton, Horace Dean Clifton, Raymond Clifton and James Kelly; sister, Genevieve Clifton. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Dickey Clifton of Oil City; son, James "Jamie" Alton Clifton, Jr. and wife Chanda of Oil City; daughters, Cheryl Driskell and husband, Joe of Benton and Kayla Reynolds and husband, Richard of Benton. Mr. Clifton is also survived by his brother, Richie Clifton and wife, Sheila of Sarepta; sister, Joyce Johnson of Rodessa; grandchildren, Amelia, Garrett, Abi, Aidan, Jacey, Davis, Joe, Julieanne, Kendall and Easton.
Honoring Mr. Clifton as pallbearers will be Davis Driskell, T. J. Dickey, Ronnie Griggs, Richard Reynolds, Joe Driskell, Aidan Haire, J. C. Dickey, and Garrett Clifton. Honorary pallbearer will be Easton Reynolds.
